Lets enjoy the life which is only 1..Anandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13075600270180842151noreply@blogger.comBlogger391100tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6346159701158991335.post-83926990884381492152011-10-08T14:32:00.000-07:002011-10-08T14:32:47.879-07:00Last few weeks, I had been struggling talking to my Parents in India...reasons: slow internet in India (now debatable...read further for clarifications), preference for video conferencing...they followed every small instructions their so called educated kids gave them from thousands of miles away...but nothing seemed to be working...I was frustrated...I had already started calling on Phone...but they did not change their routine...every weekend on the scheduled time they were there and invited for a Video chat...<br /><br />Back Story: On my last India visit, I left my old laptop back home...cleared all my old stuff (:P)...re-formatted hard drive...made shortcuts (music, internet, pics)...trained them on how to use the laptop...very similar to any employee/operator I train at my work...I came back hoping that they would use for day to day activities (pics, music, movies etc..)...I came back...tried my best but I realized quickly they only look at Laptop as a medium to connect with their kids who are far away from them...<br /><br />All this while we have been using Google Talk and normal gmail for Video chat...it worked fine and never tried something else (skype...etc...)...today tried to fix things...as usual video call dint work...I was able to hear their sound...but sound from our side was very low which which was also one of the major concerns for last few weeks...Firstly, I asked them to check lot of connections which did not work...I finally decided to try Skype...I had earlier created an accound and gave them a list of usernames and passwords but meanwhile someone had re-installed Skype and as usual my list was lost sonewhere in house...result: Mom blaming Dad for untideness (She could not blame me for obvious reasons)...had already wasted 2 hours without any fruitful conversation...Finallly Idea clicked...whatever u learn everyday comes in use some of the other way...I had used this technique sometime back when working with a customer service guy working on a company software and decided to try this....after few failed attempts...got it right and most of the issues seem to be fixed...if problems arise...I will follow the steps again and less time will be wasted...here are the steps I used...<br /><br />1. On Google Talk send the link: <a href="https://join.me/">https://join.me/</a><br />2. Asked them to click it...So it opened in new window...<br />3. Asked them to click "Share"<br />4. It downloads an "Exe file"...Asked them to run it after download...<br /><br />NOTE: First 3 steps r easy and worked easily...spent some time to find where the download file went but it worked out okay...<br /><br />5. Once they run the file, it gives a bunch of numbers at the top for example: <a href="https://join.me/981-652-457">https://join.me/981-652-457</a><br />6. Get those numbers and type that in the URL as seen above and just run it<br />7. Now you will see their screen...in the last option ask for control of their screen <br />8. Once they give you permission, ask them to leave the mouse and enjoy...<br />9. You can chat (voice/video) while you aree working on this...<br />10. I logged them into Skype, added myslef and few more important poeple to the contact list...I also added them to google plus...to use Hangout...re-taught few things using their mouse and their screen and using my voice over here...<br /><br />For now this seems to be working, voice quality is great...You can also fix some other things on the computer (space, pic, shortcuts, can also teach them on vista a month ago and donno could not install USB drives. Every time vista asked 4 a disk to install the driver. Now go to C:\Windows\Inf<br />Paste the usbstor.inf file into this folder (On my system there was no usbstor.inf file already in this folder).<br />5. Now try again to install the reader<br />When Vista reports it cannot find a driver direct it to C:\Windows\Inf<br />If all goes well you will see the following information from Vista<br /><br no...n the very next day even though i am busy we go to walmart...its confusing...no solution 4 tht i guess...<br /><br />july was the time when my funding for summer had to meet a deadline n immediately after that i started working on the thesis...the data analysis, software development, neural networks n what not...n the most boring thing to write down the whole thesis...every chapter was submitted to my advisor n he gave some US english language touches to it...October arrived doing this...may b writing a thesis affected my blog writing...<br /><br />October 23 I defended my thesis...i passed...hurray...lekin twist baki tha...they partially passed me...they wanted some technical info...like some data analysis results...WTF!...why dint they tell me before...why the life is so unfair...eventually realized my mistake...<br /><br />this was the time i started watching 4-5 movies a day...it all started with darling by RGV...i watched all kinds of movies...action, romance,drama,war...good, bad n ugly...english, hindi, korean, dutch, german, polish, marathi, tamil, telugu n what not...some of the stand out movies are as mentioned below...<br /><br />american history x, gods must be crazy, paradise now (Palestine movie), amelie, thank u 4 smoking...n it goes to sivaji n the latest TZP n return of hanuman...watched more than 150 movies from mid oct to mid dece...i.e. over a span of 2 months...i mid time had 2 interviews...took up the job in LA...could have searched more but had no money to stay...n have no relatives in US...before i shifted fortunately something suggested is not achievable...nowhere does the book pinpoints someone for the failures we have had till now...instead it stresses on the progress made in various fields n how we can be the leaders in these fields...<br /><br />The book starts of with a definition of a developed state...how different countries envision for themselves...whats r there plans?how have they achieved?....then the focus is totally on India...its resources...its problems...targets to be achieved...etc...all sectors are explained with current state...progress gained till now n plans 4 future are explained in enough details...<br /><br />different sectors explained are:<br />1) Food, agriculture n processing<br />2) Materials n the future<br />3) Chemical industry n biological wealth<br />4) Manufacturing<br />5) Health care n more...<br /><br />This book has made me think...has helped me to think outside the politics...i keep thinkin of the diff ways i can contribute to this vision using my knowledge n experience....4 me most imp sectors to concentrate r water management, power generation, manufacturing (optimum use of resources),health service 4 all (WATCH "SICKO" by micheal mooore), parzania, Ek chalis ki last local n metro...<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">parzania</span>:makes us realize how innocent people would have gone through in the riots...its not about hindu or muslim but abt the suffering of common indian...also reminds us of the line "An eye 4 n eye makes the whole world blind"...godhra...was followed by riots...then bomb blasts in mumbai trains and that continues....<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">eckll</span>: kudos to the director...a story of 2.25 hrs...1 main character...his story...and how several other characters contribute to his story...commercial movie still realistic...dark comedy used beautifully...rajni cameo is superb...thanks for such a movie...abhay deol is one brave actor...<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">metro</span>: another brilliant effort...strong performances...fresh approach to tell stories...use of rock band to express the feelings of the characters brilliant...songs and lyrics mindblowing...like ECKLL commercial movie but still realistic...thers no KK singing for shilpa...thers no irrfan begging for love...thers no item number...ther r no characters which r not concluded that the situation of a graduate student is almost similar wherever he/she is...<br /><br />There may be different ways of celebrations...cocktail parties, pubs, movies etc..<br />There may be different studying environment in school n around..<br />...but ultimately what matters for a grad student is the credit cards, their credit limits, rent of the house, how good r the roomates...<br /><br />No matter what school or dept u r from...effort is to publish as many papers as u can...that thickens ur resume and also ur advisors...Large efforts are made to publish one paper and then make modifications in the base paper to publish another and increase the tally...<br /><br />And finally the most important concern to pay back the loan taken from a bank...so work for getting a job....if All votes shud be unanimous to come at a decision. It starts with 11 people finding the guy guilty while one stands by him. The movie basically deals with how he changes the minds of other people by raising some imp. questions. <br /><br />Its a brilliant movie and amzing performances by all the actors (especially pankaj kapoor). But then I heard that this movie is a remake of some hollywood flick "12 Angry men". Fortunately I got the opportunity to watch the movie as well.<br /><br />Only difference is that our movie is in hindi with our actors with a duration of 2 hrs as compared to 1.5 hr hollywood flick. All the dialogues also seem to be just translated. <br /><br />In the end, I dint feel cheated and that what matters. I enjoyed both the movies. our movie is beautifully adapted with amazing performances. Eagerly waiting for Paanch, gulal and No smoking.<br /><br />SEI: Sorry its a waste of time to talk abt this movie<br /><br />Babel: A well made film describing different cultures and how they are connected. <br /><br />Dombivli Fast: Finally the marathi film industry is proving its capability. Shwas gave a new shwas for the industry and thats paying off.
